British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, are expected to hold talks within the next few days on a new deal on the Northern Ireland protocol, according to a report in The Times newspaper.

The British government plans to table the text of the Northern Ireland protocol deal to Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) on Monday, before it is shared with Sunac Ministers on Tuesday, according to the report.

Sunac and von der Leyen are expected to attend the Munich Security Conference which has already started and may meet on the sidelines.

DUP leader, Geoffrey Donaldson, dismissed early speculation that the dispute was close to being resolved. There have been several press reports this month suggesting a new deal could be announced within weeks.
