The conference is organised in the framework of the Cyprus Government Initiative for Coordinating Climate Change Actions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East (EMME), aiming to address and improve the effects of climate change, promoting its mitigation actions after the Paris Agreement.

The conference will be announced by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petridis, the Executive Director of the European Defence Agency (EDA), Jiří Šedivý, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Cornelios S. Corneliou, and the Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Myrto Zambarta. Participants will also look at the fundamental factors influencing the environment and the impact of climate change on international peace and security. In this regard, the conference will identify the risks and threats associated with climate change and seek to identify factors that could help mitigate their effects.

As an integral part of the Conference, participants will also have the opportunity to attend the 2nd International Conference on Climate Change organised by the Cyprus Institute on October 13-14, 2021, focusing on aspects of climate change and air pollution in the region.
