JRCC | The 28-year-old diver found dead in Larnaca

The 28-year-old diver was found dead in Larnaca on the second day of the investigations.

On August 28, 2021, at 12:40, the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) received information regarding a missing diver, a 28-year-old Cypriot citizen, in the sea area near Larnaca Airport.

The JRCC immediately activated the National Search and Rescue Plan “NEARCHOS”, sending aeronautical means and groups of divers to the area, who conducted search operations to locate the missing person.

A helicopter of the Police Air Operations Squadron with a specialized nurse of the ambulance service, a coast guard boat with a group of divers, groups of divers of the National Guard (Underwater Demolition Command) and the Catastrophe Response Special Unit, patrols of the Larnaca Police Department and a boat with lifeguards of Larnaca’s District Administration as well as members of the Larnaca airport rescue team.

The 28-year-old went diving with a friend with a snorkel in a sea area near Larnaca Airport. However, when the latter returned to the sea surface, he realized that his 28-year-old friend had disappeared. He immediately called the Police and an operation was set up to locate and rescue the diver.
