Israel’s new Prime Minister Naftali Bennett receives confidence vote from Knesset

The Israeli parliament gave a confidence vote on Sunday night to the government of the new Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, successor of Netanyahu who has been in power for 12 years.

Of the 119 members present (in the 120-member parliament), 60 voted in favour of the new coalition, which includes both right and left parties and also supports an Arab party.

Fifty-nine MPs, mostly from Netanyahu’s Likud party, the far-right and pro-Orthodox parties, voted against.

Centrist Mickey Levy elected to be Parliament’s new speaker in Israel

Today, Israeli MPs elected centrist Mickey Levy to be Parliament’s new speaker, prior to the new governing coalition expected to end the term of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Levy, 69, of the center-right party Yesh Atid (There is a Future), was elected with 67 votes (out of 120 in parliament). He will succeed Prime Minister Netanyahu, a member of parliament for the right-wing Likud party.
