A squadron of the Syrian air defence was deployed to repel an “Israeli attack” in the area of Damascus, the capital of Syria, the Syrian state broadcast late last night.
Israeli warplanes launched missiles from “Lebanese airspace,” the agency said, adding that no casualties or damage had been reported so far. Earlier, “explosions in Damascus” were heard, according to the same source.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights spoke of “strong explosions in and around Damascus” during the “Israeli strikes against military positions” of the Syrian armed forces. According to this NGO, the bombing took place near “Damascus international airport” and “a Syrian air defence wing in Dumayr region”, some 50km from Damascus, where explosions in arms depots took place.

According to the Observatory, “strikes also took place in the southern part of Homs province” in central Syria, while “explosions were heard in the provinces of Hama and Latakia” in the northern and northwestern part of the war-torn country.
“The strikes resulted in casualties in Homs, where rescue teams were dispatched to the affected facilities,” the NGO said, without referring to a specific death toll.
