Israel’s parliament voted Wednesday in favor of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to the “unilateral” creation of a Palestinian state, following growing international calls to revive efforts to achieve a two-state solution to the decades-long conflict.
Netanyahu’s Likud party said in a statement that 99 out of 120 lawmakers voted in favor of the statement passed earlier this week by the Cabinet.
The Israeli position also says that any permanent agreement with the Palestinians should be reached through direct negotiations between the sides, not by international mandates.
