The Russian Ministry of Defence released a video with a Mig-31 fighter intercepting a US Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) RC- 135 aircraft over the Pacific Ocean.
The Mig-31 of the Eastern Military District, according to the announcement dated April 10, 2021, took off in order to identify an air target and to prevent the violation of the state borders of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Air Force identified the air target as a US Air Force strategic reconnaissance aircraft and accompanied it over the Pacific Ocean until its departure.

The Mig-31 flight, according to the announcement, was carried out strictly in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace. Incidents of interception of US aircraft by Russian Airforce have increased recently and the tension between the two superpowers is not expected to de-escalate immediately, due to the apparent escalation in Eastern Ukraine.
