Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev raised the country’s flag yesterday Sunday in the capital of the former seceded enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The enclave was brought under their control by Azeri forces in September.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, raised the flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi and gave a speech, an announcement by the presidency reported, according to APA MPA.

It should be noted that the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh is called Khankendi by the Azeris and Stepanakert by the Armenians.

As for Nagorno-Karabakh – Armenians call it Artsakh – it is recalled that it is a mountainous region in the South Caucasus, internationally recognized as the territory of Azerbaijan.
