From Monday 04 to Friday 15 September 2023, the Hellenic Armed Forces participated in the Tripartite Joint Training “PROTEAS – 2/23” between the Special Forces – Special Operations Forces of Greece, Cyprus, and the USA. The training kicked off on Monday, August 21, 2023, and took place in the wider land and sea area of ​​the “GENERAL EVANGELOS FLORAKIS” Naval Base in Mari, Cyprus.

The said training is a continuation of “PROTEAS – 1/23” and respective activities carried out in previous years in the field of Special Operations. Furthermore, it is part of the overall planning of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) for the international cooperation of the Hellenic Armed Forces with friendly and allied countries, contributing to upgrading the level of mutual understanding and the exchange of know-how between the participants and increasing the operational capabilities of the Special Forces – Special Operations Forces in an allied context.

According to a relevant announcement, the Hellenic Armed Forces participated with 1 Special Operations Group of the Naval Special Operations Department of the Special Warfare Command of the Hellenic Navy and 1 Unconventional Warfare Group of the Underwater Demolition Command.

During the exercise, the following operational items were executed:

  • Over the Beach (OTB) operations
  • Close Quarter Combat (CQC)
  • Sniping Techniques and Tactics
  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)
  • HAILING and Visit Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS)
  • Techniques – Tactics and Procedures (TTP).
