The Ministry of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus has ordered ten (10) new Fast Patrol Vessels from Finnish Kewatec.

A patrol boat of the Hellenic Coast Guard spotted on Thursday night a suspicious speedboat moving at high speed in the sea area “THERMA” in Kos.
The patrol boat of the Coast Guard used light and sound signals to immobilize the speedboat, but the attempts remained fruitless.
A pursuit ensued, with the speedboat operator making repeated attempts to ram the Coast Guard boat, while the Coast Guard crew fired warning shots towards a safe area.
The Coast Guard crew then proceeded to fire targeted precision shots at the outboard motors, in accordance with the rules of engagement, resulting in the immobilization of the speedboat and the arrest of two foreign operators, alleged to be traffickers of the remaining twenty foreigners.
Late at night today another speedboat was also spotted moving suspiciously in the same sea area (“THERMA” in Kos) at high speed without responding to the light and sound signals by the Coast Guard patrol boat.
A pursuit ensued in this case also, with the operator of the speedboat attempting to ram the Coast Guard patrol boat resulting in warning shots being fired towards a safe area.
Subsequently, the crew of the Hellenic Coast Guard boat fired targeted precision shots at the outboard motors, in accordance with the rules of engagement, resulting in the immobilization of the speedboat and the arrest of a foreign operator, alleged to be the trafficker of the remaining seventeen foreigners.
