The two-day Search and Rescue (SAR) Workshop “Poseidon” was held in Zakynthos on October 24 and 25 by the Hellenic Coast Guard in collaboration with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX).
The Minister of Shipping, Christos Stylianidis, was also in Zakynthos and attended the two-day event, accompanied by the head of the Hellenic Coast Guard, George Alexandrakis, and officers of the corps.
Upon the completion of the impressive exercise, Mr. Stylianides expressed his excitement, stating that they had witnessed an excellent search and rescue exercise and it is proven that, with the Hellenic Coast Guard, Frontex, and the other participants as a pillar, it is a starting point at a pan-European level, for any upcoming crises, in a much more professional way and, above all, with impeccable coordination.
The Piraeus Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center took part in the said exercise with a coordinating role, alongside the Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats PLS 139 and PLS 920, the Hellenic Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel 090 “GAVDOS”, a patrol boat of the Italian Coast Guard (ITCG), a helicopter of the Italian Coast Guard (ITCG), a helicopter of the Hellenic Air Force and fast craft of the Hellenic Rescue Team of the Corfu Branch.
