Today, the situation in Attica continues to improve with the constant surveillance of both Armed Forces and Greek Police personnel in order to prevent any resurgence.

On the front of Evia, the battle continues at a steady pace and with the same intensity. Strong forces from both Greece and other countries, Cyprus included, are operating across Evia.

Specifically, from August 4, Cyprus has sent a 40-member mission with fire trucks and 2 aircraft of the Department of Forests to assist in extinguishing the fires. The Cypriot mission with the ground forces, according to an announcement by the Fire Service, is currently being transported by boat to Evia. They plan to operate in the semi-mountainous community “Galatsona” of northern Evia, which is administratively part of the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos.

In another development, the company MYTILINEOS, according to its announcement, undertook the costs of renting four BELL 214 BI helicopters to assist in extinguishing the fires.

The helicopters of the American company Erickson Inc are fully staffed with both flying and support personnel consisting of more than 20 pilots, engineers, and translators.
