Α telegram of the German News Agency (DPA), entitled “Maas against the suspension of all arms exports to Turkey”, says the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas, rejected the suspension of all arms exports to Turkey due to the gas dispute in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“Strategically, I do not see this as the right path,” he said in an interview with DPA. “It would not be so easy for a NATO member. Because we have already seen NATO member Turkey purchasing missiles from Russia because it did not receive them from the US.”

Mr Maas acknowledged that diplomatic efforts had not made much progress, but he said he does not give up hope of ending the conflict through diplomacy. “And we should not permanently exclude a NATO member from arms cooperation.”
