France – Greece Joint Naval Drills | Combatant “Limnos” Frigate dominates

In the framework of the ongoing military cooperation between Greece and France, joint naval drills were held on Thursday, August 13, 2020. The drills were conducted in the eastern Mediterranean, including the area that Turkey has blocked with an illegal NAVTEX so as to conduct surveys.
The drills were executed by the Frigates “SPETSAI”, “AEGEAN”, “LIMNOS”, “KOUNTOURIOTIS” and a French Task Force consisting of the French Helicopter Carrier “TONNERRE” (Mistral Class) and the Frigate “LA FAYETTE”(La Fayette class).

The exercise included progressive maneuvers, joint operational planning tasks, tactical image exchange, communications as well as aircraft cooperation, which helped to raise the level of operational readiness, combat capability and cooperation of the participants in an allied framework.
Also, as part of the military cooperation between the two countries, two French RAFALE aircraft landed and used the facilities of the 115th Combat Wing in Souda for refueling and other services.
The photos and videos released by HNDGS (Hellenic National Defence General Staff) depict the frigate “Limnos” fully operational after the episode with a Turkish frigate that took place yesterday, 12/08.
