Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and External Affairs, Costas Fragogiannis, made a working visit to Kavala, yesterday, Wednesday, March 1. The visit takes place in the context of talks with the US firefighting helicopter manufacturing company Erickson regarding the company’s major investment in the region.
In this regard, Erickson CEO, Douglas L. Kitani, and Vice President, Ryan Perkins, will be in Greece between March 1-3. The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, will also attend the visit to Kavala and the relevant talks.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the visit to Kavala, the Ministers, and the interested US investors will visit the Amygdaleona military airport, which has been proposed by the Greek government as a suitable site for the development of the firefighting helicopter assembly, maintenance and repair center, which Erickson wishes to develop so as to cover the needs of Southeast Europe and the Balkans region.
The idea of the company’s relevant investment in Greece was initially discussed during Mr. Fragogiannis’ visit to the USA last November.
With their presence in Greece and the on-site visit to Amygdaleonas, the interested US investors confirm the company’s actual interest in making the investment.
It is noted that Erickson is an aerospace industry and aviation services provider, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, USA. Founded in 1971, it has since become a prominent and innovative company worldwide in the field of aerial firefighting.
