Chief of HNDGS | Participation in the NATO Military Committee Meeting

On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 January 2022, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), General Konstantinos Floros, participated via a video conference in the first 2022 NATO Military Committee Conference in Chiefs of Defence Session – MCCS, chaired by Admiral Rob Bauer.

The Session was also attended by Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Air Chief Marshal Todd Wolters and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) Air Chief Marshal Philippe Lavigne, as well as the Chiefs of General Staff of the Alliance’s 30 member-states.

The works of the Session’s first day focused on military strategy and the implementation progress of the “NATO Warfighting Capstone Concept – NWCC” and the corresponding “Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area – DDA”, as well as the assistance of the Military Committee in the preparation of the new Strategic Concept of the Alliance.

The works of the Session’s second day were introduced by NATO Secretary-General Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, who referred to the current political situation and the Alliance’s priorities for the NATO summit to be held in Madrid in June, highlighting the importance of close cooperation between the Political and Military Branches of the Alliance so as to maintain NATO’s unity and strength.

The Military Committee also discussed the Alliance’s “Deterrence and Defence Posture” and the security situation in Georgia and Ukraine.
