Intelligence agents disembarked from a Ryanair plane when it was forced to land in Minsk, said Irish Foreign Minister Simon Cowney.

“Five or six people boarded. Only one was arrested, which means they were secret service people,” he said.

Earlier, Ryanair’s chief executive said: “We are convinced that KGB agents also landed at the airport.”

Belarus’ secret services have retained their Russian name “KGB”, a Soviet-era legacy. Belarus is a former Soviet republic and a satellite-state of Moscow.
