The US military announced midday Friday that it had killed ISIS leader Abu Yusuf in an airstrike in Deir ez-Zor province.
According to diplomatic sources, the UN Security Council’s unanimous adoption of the decision to renew the UN Mission in Libya for one year is considered a particularly important development, which Greece welcomes.
As the same sources underline, the text of the decision makes, for the first time, an explicit reference to Article 6 of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Agreement, which provides that the government cannot enter into agreements that will bind the country in the future or be harmful to the country’s foreign policy.
The signing of the memorandum on hydrocarbons between the government of Tripoli and Turkey falls precisely into this category.
Since the beginning of the month, the State Department has noted that Libya’s interim government is bound by the Forum for Political Dialogue in Libya (LPDF) not to sign any new agreements that disrupt the country’s foreign relations or entail long-term obligations.
Responding to a question from Greek correspondents in Washington about the memorandum on hydrocarbons signed between Ankara and Tripoli, a representative of the US State Department said that all parties should refrain from actions that risk increasing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
