Zervakis | “On the front line once again, facing Turkey’s hybrid actions” – Photos

The official celebration of the Great Martyr Saint Georgios, Patron of the Army, took place today at the “MAKI GEORGALLA” Camp in Mathiatis. The celebration was attended by the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, the Deputy Chief, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Chrysiliou, the Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Christos Mavris, the Inspector General, Major General Michalis Hadjidimitriou and a delegation from the Commands of the National Guard General Staff.
In his speech, the Chief of the National Guard referred to the aspects of St. Georgios’ long-suffering life which gave him a place among the martyrs of Christianity as well as his special characteristics such as bravery, faith, ruthlessness and generosity which made him the Patron Saint of the Army.
Lieutenant General Zervakis referred to the feeling of awe and pride that we feel as we stare at the war flags bearing a picture of St. Georgios, directly linked to the heroic battles fought for the defence of our homeland. As he mentioned, the historical debt and respect for all those who were sacrificed force us to honor their memory while at the same time, we are fully aware of the enormous responsibility of the State recognition of and support to the work of the National Guard.
He concluded by emphasizing that the celebration of our Patron Saint finds us once again on the front line facing Turkey’s hybrid actions. The illegal occupation, the presence of the Turkish troops and the constant threats that are openly launched against the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus impose our constant readiness for immediate action. They also impose the strengthening of our defensive shield and the fighting spirit of the National Guard, ensuring prevention and, if this fails, achieving VICTORY.
During the celebration, the necessary measures were taken in order to comply with the provisions of the relevant decrees of the Ministry of Health concerning COVID-19.
