The bill of Senator Robert Menendez on the defence relationship between Greece and the USA has been officially included as an amendment in the package of the US defence budget and is forwarded to the Senate. The bill has been tabled and approved by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and submitted to the House of Representatives.
If the budget passes as is, it means the Menendez bill will automatically become state law along with the budget. The defence bill assessment had already taken important steps, as it had been tabled and approved by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and submitted to the House of Representatives. Nevertheless, Robert Menendez’s goal was to be able to include it in the defence budget package, as otherwise a much more time-consuming legislative process would have to be followed.
The bill refers, among other things, to the 3 + 1 cooperation between Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the United States, the bases in Souda and Alexandroupolis, the modernisation of the Hellenic Army and the delivery of F-35s to Greece which will eventually not be delivered to Turkey. In addition, it refers to the replacement of Russian military equipment and the creation of the United States-Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center.
