The US military announced midday Friday that it had killed ISIS leader Abu Yusuf in an airstrike in Deir ez-Zor province.
The visit of US MP Pete Sessions to the Occupied Territories has evoked the strong reaction of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Republican congressman from Texas traveled to the occupied territories via the illegal airport of Tymbos and met with Ersin Tatar, who spoke to him about a “sustainable solution on a two-state basis”.
The Texan politician assured the “president” of the pseudo-parliament that he would assist in the efforts to make the voice of the Turkish-Cypriot “people” heard.
Sessions said that the principle of respecting “both peoples” on the island is important and that common sense and great leadership are needed to reach an agreement.
Why would any congressman visit a rogue republic recognized by no nation apart from Turkey?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus spoke of a violation of international law and deviation from the official position of the USA. As it states in its announcement, this illegal transition is a conscious choice of the MP himself, which goes against the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and obviously serves other purposes, such as trying to create impressions.
In Mr. Sessions’s case, unlike others, deterrence was not possible precisely because of his history of dealings with Turkey.
In fact, during his meeting with Pete Sessions, the Turkish-Cypriot leader stated that the negotiations for a solution based on the bizonal, bicommunal federation have been exhausted due to the mentality of the Greek-Cypriots, who consider Cyprus a Greek island.

Sessions also met with the “president” of the pseudo-parliament, Zorlou Toure, who thanked him for his courage to come to the “TRNC” and listen to them, while they are being subjected to an embargo they do not deserve.
Pete Sessions retorted that he is very excited to hear their opinions, and he called it absolutely right and fair to visit the “North”, since he has visited the “South” in the past. As the US politician said, the “TRNC” is a friend, while he stated that he is ready to contribute in the best possible way to the efforts of the Turkish-Cypriot “people” to have their voices heard.
The Republic of Cyprus is in direct and close communication with the USA on this issue as well, having as a compass their long-standing cooperation, which is based, among other things, on the official position of the US authorities on the Cyprus issue, which remains unchanged and consistent with international law, concludes the announcement of the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
