Tragedy in the National Guard | Female contracted soldier who was injured in an exercise dies

A serious accident took place during a driving exercise that was carried out at a National Guard camp. The accident resulted in the serious injury of the 27-year-old contracted soldier Private Natalie Neophytou. 

During the exercise, under conditions that were being investigated at 11:00 am, the jeep-type vehicle driven by the contracted soldier together with a cadet reserve officer and a hoplite was overturned. 

The 27-year-old was taken to the Nicosia General Hospital where, despite the efforts of the doctors on duty, she could not be kept alive.  

The hoplite and cadet reserve officer were transported to the Larnaca General Hospital, where they were treated and then discharged without any serious injuries. 

An investigation was ordered to determine the causes of the accident. The site of the accident has been blocked and the assistance of the Police has been requested for the investigation of the incident. 

The Ministry of Defence, with its announcement, expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the contracted soldier.
