The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, characterized the submission of the bill for the extension of Greece’s territorial waters in the Ionian Sea as a historic moment for the exercise of an inalienable right of Greece.

“The submission of the bill to the Parliament for the extension of the territorial waters in the Ionian Sea is a historic moment for the exercise of our country’s inalienable right, based on International Law and International Maritime Law,” the Greek Foreign Minister said in a statement on twitter. He also added: “The bill confirms the strategy of Greece to aim for agreements with neighboring countries, always based on international law, promoting security and prosperity in the region.”

It is noted that on Monday the bill for the extension of the western limits of the Greek Maritime Zone to 12 nautical miles will be submitted to the Greek Parliament. The bill will be discussed by the competent committee of the Parliament next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and will be voted by the Plenary on January 19.
