NATO has selected Thales to provide the first defence cloud that can be deployed in the theatre of operations in less than 24 hours.
According to an announcement, Thales was selected after an international, competitive tendering process based on its defence system integration know-how as well as the fact that the Nexium Defence Cloud complies with the strictest standards of military security and interoperability, namely the requirements of NATO’s Federated Mission Networking standard, which sets the framework for cooperation between command and control networks for Allied forces.
With this contract, the group enters a new market sector demonstrating its capacity to integrate the best available commercial technologies and adapt them to the needs of the armed forces.
As military operations become more and more data-driven, access to critical data and applications is a basic requirement for the armed forces.

The defence cloud developed by Thales allows forces to analyze and share real-time data from command centers to the theater of operations, to pursue their digital transformation with complete security, and to accelerate the decision-making cycle to acquire and maintain the operational advantage.
With Nexium Defence Cloud and Service Design Studio, a small team of experts can develop IT services and applications to locations thousands of miles away in just a few hours, contrary to what is true today. Thales’ solution is based on a holistic approach that includes application management, IT, networking, and security, with a comprehensive system architecture designed to accommodate different levels of confidentiality.
Nexium Defence Cloud, according to Thales, incorporates the best commercial technologies available to provide a comprehensive, modular, sovereign solution that allows forces to operate fully autonomously in the theater of operations. It offers a wide array of possible configurations, from high-capacity and easily scalable infrastructure to all-in-one containerized systems that transform a forward base into a new cloud node in just a few hours.
This easy interconnection within ad hoc organizations and command structures increases mission effectiveness with an unparalleled level of security.
According to Thales, Nexium Defence Cloud is the most compact, integrated, and modular solution available today. It includes all components of military command posts (cabinets, servers, data storage media, supervision system, etc.), while it meets performance requirements in terms of size, weight, and power (SWaP) to simplify deployment and minimize the logistics footprint.
