With an impressive video National Guard Celebrates on April 23, honoring St. George, patron of the Army

Saint George, the Great Martyr and Trophy Bearer, the equestrian young warrior, was proclaimed by Orthodoxy as the ideal hero.

St. George was a military officer thus he is considered the patron Saint of the Infantry both in the Greek and Cypriot Army, while he is also the patron Saint of England.

With a Royal Decree published in 1864, the Greek State designated the War Flags to bear the image of St. George. A second Royal Decree published in 1953, established the 23rd of April, the day of St George’s martyrdom, as a celebration of the Infantry and other Army Branches and Corps, with the exception of the Artillery.

The DEFENCE ReDEFiNED team wishes a “Happy St. Georges Day” to the Army personnel in Cyprus and Greece as well as to those who celebrate their name day!
