On Sunday, April 7, 2024, the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of the Forts (April 6-9, 1941) was celebrated at “LISSE”, “RUPEL”, “NYMPHEAS”, “OCHYRO” (ISTIPEI) and “EHINOS” forts.
According to a relevant announcement from the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS), during the anniversary celebration, a memorial service was held and wreaths were laid in memory of the Officers and Soldiers of the Hellenic Army, who defended and protected the Forts in April 1941.
The ceremony at “ROUPEL” fort was honored by the presence of the President of the Parliamentary Party Democratic Patriotic Movement “NIKI”, Mr. Dimitrios Natsios, the Member of Parliament of Serres, Mr. Konstantinos Boubas, the Mayor of Sintiki, Mr. Georgios Tatsios, the Venerable Metropolitan of Sidirokastro Makarios, the Chief of HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Commander of the 3rd Army Corps “ALEXANDER THE GREAT”, Lieutenant General Athanasios Garinis, the Deputy Governor of the Regional Unit of Serres, Mr. Panagiotis Spyropoulos, representatives of the local authorities, Army and Security Officers on duty, retired Army Officers and other guests.
The ceremony at “NYMPHEAS” fort was attended by Members of the Greek Parliament, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Panteleimonas, the Commander of the 4th Army Corps “THRACE”, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, the Mufti of Komotini Dr. Khalil Jihat, Army and Security Officers on duty, retired Army Officers and other guests.
