The leading Special Operations Unit of the Hellenic Army, the Special Paratroopers Unit, has proved its worth once again.
According to an announcement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), from November 29 to December 2, 2021, the Special Paratroopers Unit was evaluated by NATO Special Operations HQ in the wider region of Central Greece in terms of the capability of undertaking Special Operations Land Task Group – SOLTG), in accordance with Allied standards.
This activity follows the National Evaluation that took place in November last year and is part of the implementation of the Alliance’s goal concerning Special Operations Forces. The composition of the evaluation team involved personnel from the Evaluation Department of the NATO Special Operations HQ as well as officers of HNDGS and the General Staffs of the Branches.
The Special Paratroopers Unit, which was joined by a Chemical Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRPN) Materials Group of the Special Battalion for evaluation purposes, is fully organized, staffed and equipped with modern materials and media according to international standards. The entire Unit was deployed, while it designed and executed a wide range of missions according to a scenario that simulated the current security challenges emerging in the international environment, covering a range of missions undertaken by the respective Alliance Special Operations Units.
At the end of the process, the committee evaluated the Special Paratroopers Unit as “Combat Ready” for undertaking Special Operations missions, characterising its performance as “exceptional”, while praising Greece’s contribution to the implementation of the Allied Targeting. This distinction reflects the high level of professionalism, the Spirit of Unity and the consistency of the Unit’s personnel, providing valuable know-how for the completion of the HNDGS Special Operations Unit’s effort aiming at developing and upgrading the operational capabilities of all Special Forces
