Five years after imposing restrictions on arms exports to Turkey, Norway has decided to accept Ankara’s arms applications.
The Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, has confirmed the reinstatement of compulsory military service in Serbia. According to a “Vreme” publication, men will have a mandatory 75-day training, while women will also be able to serve voluntarily.
According to the publication, the Serbian President, after discussions with the officials of the Armed Forces, maintains that the measure can be implemented within a year.
Specifically, the military service will include 60 days of training in camps, followed by 15 days of exercises. Vucic highlighted the positive impact of the decision, arguing that the introduction of military service would be beneficial for Serbia, with 75 days as a minimum commitment.
The president also emphasized that this initiative will require a new 100 million from the state budget but expressed confidence that the investment will be returned many times over. After visiting a special forces exercise in Gucevo, Vucic said there were plans to renovate camps across the country. In addition, he mentioned via his Instagram account that he plans to visit some camps himself in the coming days, even sleeping there.
It is worth recalling that in August, Croatia also announced the reinstatement of two-month mandatory military service, ending the voluntary conscription system that has been in place since 2008. The conscription system in Croatia is expected to be implemented on January 1, 2025.
