Problems caused by the decision on conscripts’ deferrals – Some refuse to return to the National Guard
Statements in the broadcast “Mesimeri kai Kati” of SIGMA TV were given by the Study Advisor, Chrysanthos Savvidis, who mentioned the three main problems that arise because of the rejection of the supplementary budget for the recruitment of EPOP, following the deferral of the decision to defer the military service of conscripts who would study in Britain.
According to Mr. Savvidis, the first problem is in regards to the positions secured by the students for 2021. The positions have been canceled for 2020, while their re-claiming for 2021 may cause further problems.
The second problem is that several of the new recruits have booked accommodation and signed a contract. Finally, the third problem that arises is the loan applications they submitted for their studies.
In terms of accommodation, study counselors suggest that students send a letter to the accommodation stating exactly what happened and the last-minute changes justifying why they will not be able to travel to the UK.
The suggestion given to those in charge by Mr. Savvidis is to prepare an official letter, either the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Defence, confirming what the students said so that they can be released from the contracts, which amount to 8 thousand pounds.
He also referred to the parents of the children, some of whom threaten to take legal action against those responsible for this situation, since the psychology of the children is very negative, as they refuse to continue their service in the National Guard.
