The two Turks accused of espionage flew drones over the Hellenic Navy training center in Poros.
At approximately 11:00 on Saturday morning, the commander of the training center contacted Poros’ Police Station, reporting that at 07:00 am on the same day, a drone was observed flying over the training center for about 10 minutes. The unmanned aerial vehicle belonged, according to the complaint, to two Turkish nationals.
The police immediately arrived in the area in order to locate the perpetrators, who had already left by ferry from Poros to Galata at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
According to an eyewitness, the use of the drone by the Turks was made from a platform opposite the hotel facilities.
The manager of the specific hotel testified that the two foreigners had checked in the hotel last Friday afternoon after making a reservation through an online platform in a Turkish name. The reservation also included a phone number.
The two Turks left shortly before 10:00 a.m. the following day on two motorcycles with full travel gear and foreign license plates.
The Piraeus Prosecutor’s Office ordered that a case file be filed for espionage and the overflight of an unmanned aerial vehicle over military facilities.
The two Turkish nationals were spotted on Monday in the area of Monemvasia where they were arrested. A special unit of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) traveled to Monemvasia where an investigation is being conducted and the suspects are being interrogated.
Drones, cell phones, and other digital evidence have been seized. It is expected that the recording material will be investigated in order to assess the seriousness of the case.
