New tension in Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean | Escorted by 7 warships, ORUC REIS sails with “radar off”

Escorted by 7 Turkish ships, the Turkish research vessel ORUC REIS sailed from the Antalya naval base, according to information from Greek media.

The Government Council of National Security (KYSEA) convenes extraordinarily at 12.00 on Monday (10/8) with Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the Maximos Palace to discuss the developments.

The extraordinary meeting of KYSEA was decided early on Monday morning after the new NAVTEX was issued by Turkey so as to conduct research in the area south of our island until August 23.

There is intense mobility of Turkish warships off Karpathos and Kastelorizo, some of which will escort the Turkish research vessel that is moving with “radar off” and at low speed for the borders of the Greek and Cypriot EEZ.

At the same time, the Greek Armed Forces are on red alert awaiting the developments of the Greek-Turkish crisis taking place in the last twenty-four hours.

The Greek Navy has also deployed in predetermined positions and is monitoring all Turkish movements.

According to the Greek press, the air bases are on alert for immediate aircraft take-off.
