From 12 to 13 March 2025, the 1st Military Marksmanship Competition for Special Operations Snipers and Sharpshooters was held, with the participation of personnel from the National Guard and members of the Police of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to an official announcement, the competition featured four event categories, classified by rifle calibre. Participants were tested on multiple target engagements from various distances and shooting positions, as well as on observation, estimation and target engagement.
On Friday, 14 March 2025, the closing ceremony and awards presentation took place at the “LT. GENERAL GEORGIOU KATSANIS” Military Camp, with the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, presenting prizes to the winners of each category.
In his brief address, the Chief of the National Guard congratulated the personnel involved in the successful planning and execution of the competition, which he noted has the potential to become an established institution. He highlighted the pivotal role of Special Mission Snipers in ensuring operational superiority, particularly in countering asymmetric threats within today’s complex and multidimensional operational environment.
The organisation of this event and the participation of National Guard personnel reflect the force’s commitment to continuous and multi-faceted training. Such initiatives facilitate the exchange of experiences and knowledge, foster an interdisciplinary spirit, and significantly enhance operational readiness.
Simultaneously, inter-agency cooperation with the Security Forces of the Republic of Cyprus is being strengthened, enabling a more effective response to shared challenges.
