The Naval Command carried out the small-scale naval cooperation exercise “CYP/ITA-01/2023” with the Italian Navy on Thursday, February 23, 2023. The said exercise took place in the context of the presence of the Italian Destroyer ANDREA DORIA (D-553) in the sea area of Cyprus.
The purpose of the exercise, which was planned by the Naval Command in cooperation with the Italian Navy, was to conduct naval drills and promote interoperability between the respective Naval Units.
The scenario included tactical movements, forward maneuvers, formations, aeronautical cooperation with a helicopter and consensual boarding during which the Special Operations Team of Destroyer ANDREA DORIA boarded the General Support Ship ALASIA. The exercise was concluded with the ships’ salute ceremony.
