On Wednesday at the meeting of KYSEA (Government Council of National Security) chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. An assessment of developments in Afghanistan and border protection planning were put on the table.
According to a government statement, the priority remains the coordination for the safe release and return from Afghanistan of individuals and their families who cooperated with the Greek forces.
The coordination of all required actions has been undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also as mentioned above, the planning was discussed both at European and bilateral as well as at national level for the need to protect the borders and to avoid a new humanitarian crisis.
According to government officials, the Greek authorities are always on alert both at land and sea borders to prevent illegal entry into the country.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the Minister of Civil Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Giannis Plakiotakis, the Minister of Immigration Norantiras Deputy Minister of National Defense Alkiviadis Stefanis, the General Secretary of the Prime Minister Grigoris Dimitriadis, the Chief of General Staff Konstantinos Floros, the Commander of the National Intelligence Service Panagiotis Kontoleos, the Director of the Diplomatic Office N.
