According to the announcement of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), on October 17, 2021 at 15:44, the Larnaca JRCC received information regarding 4 people in danger, at the location Thalassines Spilies (Palathkia) Cape Greco.
The JRCC, after contacting the Aviation Operations Unit of the Police, diverted the “ACHILLEAS” helicopter that was in the area, while at the same time mobilized the Fire Service of Famagusta Station, the Catastrophe Response Special Unit (EMAK), the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organisation and the lifeguards of the Ayia Napa Municipality.
The 4 people, 1 man and 3 women of Ukrainian origin, aged 30, were pulled by the helicopter of the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit and moved to the ambulance, where after an on-site examination by the nurses it was concluded that they had minor external injuries and that their hospitalisation was not necessary.
On the occasion of this incident, JRCC reminds the public that, according to a decision of the competent state services, approaching and diving at the point of the “sea caves” in Cape Greco are strictly prohibited, as according to an inspection by the Department of Geological Survey, the soil has been deemed dangerous due to increased erosion.
