The US Army has successfully conducted a test launch of its new hypersonic missile system, “Dark Eagle,” after two years of delays.
The US Department of State has approved Japan’s request to purchase an additional nine KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft.
As the relevant announcement of the Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) states, Japan has requested the supply of additional airborne tankers to strengthen the operational capabilities of its air forces.
In particular, the equipment program with a total value of 4.1 billion dollars includes, in addition to the KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft, 18 turbofan engines, 16 early warning radar receivers, as well as 33 integrated electronic warfare systems with infrared countermeasures.

Finally, the agreement covers spare parts for the logistical support of the airborne tankers, as well as a training program for crews and ground technicians. Once the contract is finalized, Japan will have a total of 15 KC-46A aircraft.
