The US Department of State has approved Japan’s request to purchase an additional nine KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft.
As the relevant announcement of the Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) states, Japan has requested the supply of additional airborne tankers to strengthen the operational capabilities of its air forces.
In particular, the equipment program with a total value of 4.1 billion dollars includes, in addition to the KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft, 18 turbofan engines, 16 early warning radar receivers, as well as 33 integrated electronic warfare systems with infrared countermeasures.
