HNDGS | Hellenic Armed Forces participation in Operation “CLEMENCEAU 22”

In the context of the broader planning of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) to increase the allied, bilateral and multilateral actions of the Hellenic Armed Forces with friends and allied countries, on Saturday, March 05, 2022, following the invitation sent by the French Defence General Staff regarding the re-participation of our country in Operation “CLEMENCEAU 22”, frigate “HYDRA” joined the “Carrier Strike Group” (CSG) of the French Navy. In the context of this invitation, submarine “PAPANIKOLIS” also participated in the role of ASSOCIATED SUPPORT.

The Belgian and US Armed Forces also participate in Operation “CLEMENCEAU 22” and the Naval force that accompanies the French “CHARLES DE GAULLE” aircraft carrier, which is also its Command Ship.

The participation of the Armed Forces of our country in this Operation is part of the “Guidelines for the Upgrading of the Greek-French Military Cooperation” signed on January 21, 2022, between the Chief of HNDGS, General Konstantinos Floros, and the French Chief of Defence, General Thierry Burkhard, in implementation of the “Agreement on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership for Cooperation in Defence and Security” between the Governments of the two countries.

Joining this Force, the Hellenic Armed Forces participate for the second time in Operation “CLEMENCEAU 22”, which takes place in the sea area of ​​the Central Mediterranean, conducting advanced operational training activities, in order to upgrade the interoperability between the participants, increase the CSG’s combat capability and contribute to the Alliance’s deterrence and defence structure.
