The Ministry of Citizen Protection is proceeding with the creation of a Social Policing Directorate, as provided for in the bill being promoted for the Reorganization of the Headquarters and Staff Services of the Hellenic Police.
In particular, the creation of a Social Policing Directorate aims to unifiedly address interpersonal violence issues with a strong social dimension while also protecting the vulnerable and victims.
The new bill was presented by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, and is to be put to public consultation and then debated and voted on by the Parliament.
It’s an essential draft law, based on which the Ministry is proceeding with the universal restructuring of the Hellenic Police in order to make it more European, more democratic, and more modern.

Concerning the level of domestic violence, arrests have more than doubled compared to previous years, while the 24-hour ‘15900’ hotline and the installation of the ‘Panic Button’ are already paying off, while officer training continues.
At the same time, there are 63 special offices in Police Departments throughout the country and specially configured areas as “safe houses” for the safe accommodation of victims of domestic violence in the Region of each Police Directorate.
Also, at the level of juvenile delinquency, significant steps have been taken, as enhanced soft policing actions are now implemented in places frequented by minors.
In addition, the parents of delinquent minors are now arrested, the retraining of the police officers of the DIAS team continues, the 24-hour 5-digit complaint hotline (10201) has been activated and is working, while corresponding to the “panic button,” the creation of a digital application, installed in mobile phones, where, after a complaint, it will notify the police of any incident, with minors as “protagonists.”
All of the above will now be directed centrally by the new Directorate of “Social Policing,” which is about to be established, with the aim, on the one hand, of performance and efficiency in the difficult work of the executives of the Hellenic Police and, on the other hand, the greater protection of the victims.
