A common stance was expressed by Joe Biden and the leadership of the European Union who met at the White House.

The US President and Ursula von de Leyen agreed with Charles Michel to defend Israel’s right to self-defence, declaring that they would continue to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.

The US-EU summit coincided with the proliferation of crises around the world and the US President, European Council President, Charles Michel, and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, aimed to demonstrate the long-lasting ties of USA – EU.

In the laconic statements made by Biden to the press, he welcomed the fact that Washington and Brussels jointly support Ukraine and now Israel, after the terrible terrorist attack by Hamas.

Michel and von der Leyen arrived separately at the White House for this tripartite meeting with Biden. After the talks are completed, a joint communiqué will be issued, but no press conference has been planned.

Europeans and Americans also seek to prevent the opening of a second front with the Lebanese Hezbollah and a possible regional escalation with unforeseen consequences.

With regard to the economic agenda, the constant request of the European side for the abolition of tariffs on steel and aluminum exports is not expected to be met immediately.

However, the first in two years US-EU summit may lock up a deal on minerals seen as critical to the energy transition.
