The Distinguished Visitors Day (DV-DAY) of “STEADFAST LEDA 2021” exercise of NATO’s Deployable Corps – Greece (NRDC-GR) was held on Wednesday, December 2, 2021 at “PROKOPIDIS” Camp in Assiro, Thessaloniki. The event was attended by:
- The Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis, as a representative of the Chief of HNDGS, General Konstantinos Floros, the Commander of the 1st Army, Lieutenant General Petros Demestichas, and the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal Demosthenis Grigoriadis.
- The Deputy Chief of the Romanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Dumitru SCARLAT, and the Commander of the 61st Mechanised Brigade of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, Brigadier Deyan DESHKOV.
- The Consuls General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki Mr. Valentin PAVLOV, of France Mr. Sandrine MOUCHET, of the USA Mr. Elizabeth K. LEE and of Turkey Mr. Efe CEYLAN.
- The Honorary Chief of HNDGS, General Michael Costarakos, the Honorary Chief of the National Guard General Staff (GEEF), Lieutenant General Elias Leontaris, and the Honorary Commander of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Koukos.
- The Military Attaché of Romania in Greece, Colonel Nicolae MARINESCU, as well as a delegation of Retired Officers.
“STEADFAST LEDA 21” is NATO’s main training activity for 2021 designed by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and its final phase took place from Tuesday November 23 to Thursday December 2, 2021. The exercise focused on the execution of NATO Article 5 land operations with the undertaking of a Major Joint Operation plus – MJO + and with the NRDC-GR in the role of Multi-Corps Land Component Command – MC LC, after its validation in January 2021 that it meets the criteria of Initial Operational Capability (IOC).

During the Exercise and to accomplish the mission assigned to it, the NRDC – GR had under command the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Spain (NRDC-ESP) deployed in Spain, the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) deployed in Germany and Poland, the Multinational Corps – Northeast (MNC NE) and the US V Corps also deployed in Poland, while it was reinforced with a Deployable Land Element (DLE) from the Allied Land Smyrna-based Command (LANDCOM).
The participating Staff was composed of 872 people from 13 countries (Albania, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, the United Kingdom, the USA, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Turkey) with the utterly successful conduct of the final phase of “STEADFAST LEDA 21”, which demonstrates the high level of professionalism of its personnel and reaffirms the high value of the NRDC – GR for the Alliance as well as its ability to deploy Headquarters and forces, when and where required.
