The British Ministry of Defence denies the reports originally published by the Interfax agency about a Russian ship firing warning shots against the HMS Defender destroyer in the Black Sea.
According to the Brits, the Russian navy was conducting a live fire exercise in the area for which it had given prior notice.
The British destroyer was carrying out a “routine transit” through Ukrainian territorial waters in accordance with international law, London claims.
It denies that the British ship came under fire or that bombs from a Russian aircraft fell in its course, as the telegram adds.
