Brazil | CENTAURO II fitted with 120 mm gun showcased in Italy

The first 2 CENTAURO IIs were showcased to the Chief of the Brazilian Army General Staff in La Spezia, Italy. The photo below shows the Chief of the Brazilian Αrmy together with his Italian counterpart in front of the imposing CENTAURO II. The vehicle in question is at the top of the Brazilian military’s list for the procurement of a new Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV).

The IFV developed by the IVECO-OTO-Melara (CIO) consortium is so far the world’s first 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle fitted with a 120mm high-pressure gun.

CENTAURO II technical characteristics:

  • Length: 8.26 meters
  • Height: 3.65 meters
  • Weight: 30 tons
  • Width: 3.38 meters
  • Maximum speed: 105 km/h
  • Maximum range: 800 km
  • Engine power: 720 hp
  • Elevation range: – 6 to + 45 degrees
  • Traverse range: 360 degrees

The vehicle has, among others, 360º panoramic view capabilities stabilized on the two AtilaD axes. It also features a new generation IVECO VECTOR 8V 720hp turbocharged diesel engine, specially-designed anti-mine seats with separate in-hull ammunition stores, while it is suitably armored for chemical-biological-nuclear warfare.
