Turkey wants to improve relations with the European Union on the basis of its full membership, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoglu said today, adding that problems between them can only be resolved if the EU acts with common sense at this week’s summit and beyond.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sigiarto in Ankara, Cavusoglu said Greece had continued to take “provocative” steps in the region despite Turkey’s efforts to use diplomacy, adding that Ankara expects the EU to act as an honest and objective mediator in the conflict.
