For THEON SENSORS, its participation in an exhibition is not merely another business activity, but a serious investment.

The company’s presence at the third edition of the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX 2023), the only Defence and Security exhibition in the African Continent, is no exception.

The thorough planning and preparation of the company’s stand attracted attendees’ attention, who were eager to see the company’s technological achievements with unprecedented export performance.

Specifically, the company showcased the following systems:

ARGUS PANOPTES

ARGUS PANOPTES is a family of innovative binoculars that meet the most demanding military specifications (MIL-SPEC). The systems in question incorporate twin-tube enhanced imaging capabilities and can be helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held. Lightweight, yet with a robust structure, they offer superior optical characteristics and night-vision efficiency.

Due to system modularity, the user can freely decide on its configuration (monocular, binocular, weapon-mounted) depending on the mission and the user’s preferences.

The operational advantage of ARGUS PANOPTES lies in its dual channel / dual tube design, where two ARGUS LW or FS monoculars are connected with a bridge, which offers greater depth perception compared to single tube systems, facilitating estimation of distances and relative motion, thereby allowing the user to engage in other activities such as vehicle driving.

Both versions – Light Weight (LW) and Fail Safe (FS) – are offered with or without Manual Gain Control (MGC). Furthermore, the system has “Four+2” degrees of adjustment, ambidextrous operation, and a variety of bases for different helmets. Long-range laser illuminator, weapon mounts with flip-away mechanism, 3X magnifiers, sacrificial, laser protection filters, camera adapters, and built-in interface for thermal clip-on attachment (FS version) are offered optionally.

MICRON-D

The MIKRON-D is a state-of-the-art Night Vision binocular, of the same concept as the ARGUS PANOPTES (MIL-SPEC, enhanced dual-tube imaging, helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held).

According to the company, MIKRON-D is the ideal choice for special operations forces. For instant configuration changes, the user can remove each monocular separately. With the two monoculars flipped away / flipped up, the system stows along the contour of the helmet, thus reducing the silhouette of the system and strain on the user, minimizing the risk of system damage.

In addition, the MIKRON-D has self-contained AA battery power and can also be operated via a remote battery at the rear of the helmet for increased operational life. Being the lightest night vision binoculars with equivalent performance to 18 mm devices with reduced weight, they can optionally integrate Manual Gain Control,

infrared illuminator, 25mm eye relief for improved user comfort, and mounts available for a wide range of helmets.

DAMΩN

The DAMΩN (Clip-On Night Vision Devices – CNVD) family of night vision devices was developed to provide soldiers with night-vision capabilities during target acquisition. These sights are designed for use in conjunction with medium- or long-range day sights. DAMΩN is easy to operate with ON/OFF/Manual Gain Control and Focus switches ergonomically positioned on the system.

The DAMΩN mounts quickly and simply to Picatinny rails (optional use of single lever mounts). Removal of the day sight is not required, so the eye-relief shooting position and user muscle memory remain the same.

An additional Picatinny rail allows the installation of auxiliary equipment such as an IR illuminator. DAMΩN MR is suitable for short-range rifles (e.g. M16, M4, AK-47 etc.) while LR is suitable for sniper rifles and machine guns (e.g. FN Minimi, MG3, M2 HB, MK19, etc.).

Thermis Mk2

THERMIS Mk2 is a family of uncooled Thermal Clip-on Sights (TCS) developed to provide soldiers with both day and night operational advantage in locating, observing, and engaging enemy targets.

THERMIS Mk2 models are versatile and can be used as either Clip-on or stand-alone sights on any weapon platform up to .50″ as a portable thermal imaging system.

THERMIS Mk2 incorporates a state-of-the-art infrared sensor as well as the latest electronic and optical technologies to create optimal infrared imaging, ensuring target identification at the maximum possible range.

The tailored design is combined with an intuitive user interface for maximum range performance and user area selection, enabling network-centric interfacing with a wide range of platforms. In general, there are five range variants to meet mission requirements: SR, MR, LR, Extra Long (ELR), and xExtra Long (xELR).

Regarding its technical characteristics, it incorporates a digital compass and inclinometer, image enhancement algorithms, connectivity (WiFi, Bluetooth) as well as image and video capture and storage. Its endurance is > 8 hours and it has a quick start-up (< 3 seconds) .

THERMόN

The THERMόN periscope was designed to replace the daytime imaging systems of armored vehicles in service. According to the company, multiple variants are available to suit any armored vehicle design.

Also, the system incorporates an uncooled infrared imaging sensor for superior image quality in any conditions (day, night, dust, smoke, and dirt). In fact, it has an electronic image zoom and +-45 degree rotation capability.
