The Turkish company Aselsan has showcased the new “kamikaze” Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) Albatros.
In particular, the Turkish Armed Forces carried out, in collaboration with the Turkish manufacturing company, successful tests of the said system in a sea area off the coast of Mersin, with the Presidency of Defence Industries of Turkey (SSB) publishing related footage.

As the Turkish Ministry of Defence reported for its part, the Albatros-type USVs were deployed in a “swarm” formation and hit a 22-meter-long sea target, under the guidance of a TB2 Bayraktar UAV, which is in service with the Turkish Navy.
Based on the exercise-test scenario, the TB2 Bayraktar identified the enemy target and then transmitted the necessary targeting data to the “swarm” of 8 Albatros in total, which headed towards the target and carried out a “kamikaze” attack, sinking the ship.

As the Turkish authorities emphasized, this is the first successful joint exercise, in which Unmanned Platforms have cooperated and executed the scenario.
It is worth noting that the Cyprus-based company Swarmly has developed similar capabilities with its new Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) B5 Hydra.
In fact, the Poseidon UAV of the same company can act as an intermediate connection and communication hub networked with up to 14 B5 Hydra.

To date, Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) increasingly allow the Ukrainians to attack the Russian Navy in the Black Sea and the Crimean Peninsula.
A country with virtually no navy is outnumbered and outgunned within its own coastline, but USVs are proving a vital tool with proven asymmetric strike capabilities, as you can read here.
