KNDS (KMW+NEXTER Defense Systems) is present at Defence and Security Equipment International 2023 (DSEI) showcasing an array of weapon systems.

On the KNDS stand, among other systems, the EuroPULS multi-launch rocket system, which is a platform agnostic system (modular) with the capacity to fire a wide range of ammunition.

The said system is a product of the strategic cooperation of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), Elbit Systems Deutschland, and Elbit Systems Land, which agreed to intensify their collaboration after having signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) last year.

The idea is the modernisation and the capability extension of the European Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS / MARS II). KMW and Elbit have established the concept “Euro-PULS” for the next-generation European Long Range Rocket Artillery as the successor system for the MLRS.

This concept has already been offered to the first European customers. The Euro-PULS system is based on Elbit Systems’ operational and in-service multi-purpose Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS) and a range of precision guided munitions. KMW complements the Euro-PULS with its experience in building and customizing (rocket) artillery systems complying with European standards.

This provides the capability to integrate every rocket according to the user’s requirements. Both companies envision a local rocket production to ensure Europe’s independence; in other words, a Future Rocket Artillery System made in Europe.

Many configurations have been proposed till now proving the system’s high degree of modularity. KNDS first proposed that the PULS be armed with Kongsberg’s surface-to-surface Naval Strike Missile (NSM). Later, Elbit – KMW mounted EuroPULS MRL on an Iveco Trakker 8×8 chassis, which was displayed at Defence iQ’s Future Artillery conference.

Also, MBDA Deutschland displayed EuroPULS armed with Joint Fire Support Missile (JFS-M), as a full-scale mock-up at Future Artillery 2023, while KMW proposes, as optional effectors for EuroPULS, Elbit’s Accular with a range of up to 35 km, Extra with a range of up to 150 km, Predator Hawk with a range of up to 300 km, SkyStriker loitering munitions as well as Lockheed Martin’s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Extended Range (GMLRS-ER) with a range of up to 70/150 km and Diehl AT2/AT3 anti-tank mines.
