Following a 12-hour meeting in the city of Ohrid, Skopje, Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, finally reached an agreement on how to implement the EU proposal on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who attended the meeting, said that Kosovo and Serbia have reached an agreement on the way to implement the proposal, in the course of normalizing their relations, with both parties fully committed to observe all the articles of the agreement and to implement their respective obligations in good faith.
The President of Serbia stated that at the meeting in Ohrid there was an agreement on important points of the road map for the implementation of the European proposal.
Aleksandar Vucic noted that it is important that the establishment of the Union of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo was prioritized and that work awaits them in the coming months, emphasizing that if they want to remain on the European path, they should follow the plan for the implementation of the proposal.

He added that the agreement will be implemented and the EU will constantly evaluate the course of its implementation and will impose sanctions on any side for any delays in the form of suspension of the accession negotiations.
The President of Serbia expressed the hope that Pristina will immediately proceed with the establishment of the Union of Serbian Municipalities and added that if this happens, the Kosovo Serbs will return to the institutions of Kosovo, from which they left in the past months.
Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, but accused Serbia’s President of refusing to sign it and now, he said, it was up to the EU to find a mechanism to make the deal legally binding.
The US special envoy to the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, congratulated the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo on reaching the agreement.
The Prime Minister of Skopje, Dimitar Kovacevski, whose country hosted yesterday’s meeting, also expressed his satisfaction with the agreement.
The EU’s proposal for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, which consists of 11 articles, was officially presented on February 27 in Brussels and was initially accepted by both parties.
