THEON INTERNATIONAL PLC (THEON) announced additional orders for the month of November. As a result of the…
The ONEX Shipyards & Technologies group is moving forward with the establishment of the Hellenic Shipyards Association. According to today’s announcement, it ceases any participation in associations whose action has been practically proven not to cover the work of shipbuilding and ship repair companies, is ineffective or serves selfish purposes and interests, far inferior to those they are supposed to serve.
In detail, the announcement states the following:
“The Hellenic Defence Industry is governed by specific rules, an institutional and a legal framework, while the purpose of its operation, goals and benefits is not limited only to the production, business and financial levels, but clearly extends to the national level and affects the geostrategic power of our country.
The ONEX Shipyards & Technologies group consistently supports the strengthening of the specific sector, through permanent investments, the opening of vacancies and creation of new possibilities, spearheading the domestic shipbuilding of integrated platforms and their subsequent support throughout their lifespan.
The representation and effective resolution of the existing and essential issues of the defence and, particularly, the shipbuilding sector, is an imperative and at the same time a complex need. It is a “heavy” strategic industry that – after years of absence – is returning to international markets. Today, more than ever, its strengthening is of vital importance to our national security.

Unfortunately, through our long-lasting presence through ONEX Technology Systems & Business Solutions in the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material Association (SEKPY) we, as members, have come to the following conclusions:
– SEKPY is either unable or unwilling to serve its real mission;
– the purpose of a modern, strong Defence Industry is completely at odds with the practices and strategy of the association;
– there is a significant lack of participation of the shipyards in the formulation of positions and decision-making of the association;
– the association discredits both the 3 major Greek shipyards and their Greek workers;
– although the state has ensured a comprehensive and clear framework, the association continues to pursue a regressive policy regarding the strengthening and modernization of the Greek Defence Industry;
– over time, the association has tried to blame the problems of the sector on third parties (such as the state, foreign industry, security bodies), which reduces its credibility and above all its effectiveness.
Based on the above, and with a view to filling the gap in the representation of our regenerated sector, we are proceeding with the establishment of the Hellenic Shipyards Association, calling on the strategically important – both for the economy and the security of the country – shipbuilding units and ship repair companies to participate in it.
In this context, the ONEX Shipyards & Technologies group ceases any participation in associations whose action has been practically proven not to cover the work of shipbuilding and ship repair companies is ineffective or serves selfish purposes and interests, far inferior to those they are supposed to serve.”
