Kiev is increasing spending by 15.5 billion hryvnias (367 million euros) to bolster Ukraine’s armed forces with drones, according to…
The Ukrainian government presented on Tuesday the security guarantees it considers necessary for the country after the end of the war with Russia.
The plan was presented by Andriy Germak, Chief of Staff to Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and former NATO Secretary-General, Anders Fo Rasmussen, in Kiev yesterday. This refers to the equipment and training Ukraine’s military needs from its Western allies to ensure the country can defend its sovereignty in the future.
Under Kiev’s proposals, several European countries, including the US, Canada, Australia and Turkey, will guarantee the security of Ukraine, which will continue its efforts to join NATO.
Although Kiev had stated at the beginning of the Russian invasion that it intended to abandon its goal of joining NATO in exchange for a ceasefire, it now emphasizes that it is interested in full Alliance membership.
For his part, former Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, warned that Ukraine’s proposals could lead to a “third world war”.
In a post on Telegram, Medvedev pointed out that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would mean that other NATO member countries would have to help defend it against Russia, adding that if – by doing so – NATO hopes to weaken Moscow, it will witness “the Earth burn and cement melt”.
